Eastleigh’s businesses have voted for a second term of the Business Improvement District (BID). The outcome of the Eastleigh BID ballot was revealed this evening by Eastleigh Borough Council, the Ballot Holder. The overall result was 93.3% of businesses voting in favour of Eastleigh BID to continue for a further 5 years.

Over the last five years, Eastleigh businesses have invested £1.2 million pounds through the payment of an annual levy, to create an exciting and successful business community for their customers, shoppers and staff, and residents and visitors to the city.

The BID has now successfully delivered one business plan over the previous term of five years. The most recent included promoting Eastleigh events, improving the public areas, develop intelligence partnerships to create a safer environment, and provide support and guidance for town centre businesses.

The second term of the BID will begin on 1 April 2019. In the meantime, the BID team are busy preparing the town for the festive season ahead, with many decorations already installed ready for the switch-on ceremony on Saturday 17th November.

Teresa Swann, Manager of Eastleigh BID commented:
“Feedback from BID Members has determined our mandate and it is warming that they have voted to support the work for a further five years. The BID team work hard with all the businesses to help make Eastleigh a nicer place to live, work and visit. This recognises of the work is seen in the percentage of support”.

Jean Roberts-Jones, Chairman of the BID and CEO of One Community, has stepped down as Chair saying: “It has been a great five years but it is time to move on and I am sure that the new chair, when appointed, will lead the team on to event more successes.”Eastleigh BID’s new Chair will be appointed in the next couple of months.

In the New Year, the BID Board will review its governance structure to allow more Members to join and subsequently an Annual General Meeting will be held in the spring.  They then look forward to delivering the new Business Plan from April (which can be accessed below).
