Eastleigh Film Festival 2018 welcomes more than 750 people to the borough

Eastleigh Film Festival (EFF), curated by The Point, celebrates a successful fifth year.

EFF 2018 ran from Monday 24th to Saturday 29th September. Screening 13 films at 10 venues across six days, the festival welcomed more than 750 people to the borough for screenings of cult and iconic films at unique venues including independent restaurants and shops, a refurbished Victorian chapel and a church, and even deep in the woods after dark. The festival closed with a sold-out screening of 80’s horror The Lost Boys on The Swan Shopping Centre’s rooftop car park.

“Eastleigh Film Festival is all about putting on brilliant films in quirky locations to match. We were so thrilled to see hundreds of people out and about in the borough, visiting fantastic venues for screenings of must-see movies. The festival will return in autumn 2019, and planning is already under way!” – Artistic Director at The Point, Sacha Lee

Since its inception in 2014 the festival has garnered a popular following, showing more films in more locations, and supporting the borough’s local business and economy. A highlight of Eastleigh’s cultural calendar, audiences travel from across Hampshire to enjoy bespoke movie-going experiences.

Highlights of the week included Chicago With Dinner at iconic jazz venue The Concorde Club; a celebration of women in film featuring a live Q&A with academics from the University of Southampton; and a spooky night-time screening of The Cabin in the Woods at Itchen Valley Country Park. Audiences said:

“Well done EFF on another fantastic programme and thanks for celebrating women in film.”

“Thoroughly enjoyed, thanks all! Lovely atmosphere and loved all the themed locations for films!”

“I will be eagerly awaiting news for next year!”

Eastleigh Film Festival will return in September 2019.
