A Dedication to Devan Kandiah

On the 23rd of July, the Visit Eastleigh (Eastleigh BID) team were honoured to be invited to Age Concern on Romsey Road where the Deputy Mayor of Eastleigh Janice Asman dedicated the main hall in the building to Devan Kandiah. A beautiful plaque was unveiled that has been designed and made by Mark Campbell.

The dedication commenced with Councillor Wayne Irish sharing some memories of Devan followed by the Deputy Mayor of Eastleigh saying a few words about Devan’s contribution to the community before presenting the Plaque to Devan’s son and wife.

During the ceremony, Devan’s son, Andrew said a few words about his wonderful Father mentioning the fundraising he did back in the 70’s and 80’s for a squash club in Fair Oak. It still runs today. He also mentioned what an avid supporter of Age Concern Devan was and how proud he would be of the dedication and the hall today.

Devan was a much-loved member of the community who was well-known for his various fundraising efforts including The Lions Bus as well as the thousands of pounds raised that was donated to Age Concern and One Community. He was very much a local hero to the Eastleigh Community and will be missed by so many.
