About Eastleigh

Eastleigh is perfectly situated between Winchester and Southampton and has a superb range of transport facilities including its rail network and centrally situated railway station. Eastleigh train station is in the heart of the town and links directly to London and the North of England.

There are good transport links to both the M27 and M3, making it the ideal base for a trip on the south coast. To the south of the town is Southampton Airport which has regular flights to many destinations, a train station and parking.

A Town Wrapped in History

Eastleigh is a vibrant and friendly town made famous through its historical links to the railway which date back to 1838!

Famous people to live in Eastleigh include Benny Hill, Scott Mills and Colin Firth who went to college here.  Come and see the plaque where once stood the old Dairy that Benny Hill used to work in and which probably inspired his classic ‘Ernie, the fastest milkman in the West’. There is a heritage trail that can be enjoyed locating this and many other historical attractions in Eastleigh.

Eastleigh has a Coat of Arms that was designed by the College of Heralds and granted in 1974 when the Borough, incorporating Eastleigh and seven parishes of the Winchester Rural District Council, was created.

The design combines items from the original Coats of Arms of both the former Borough of Eastleigh and Winchester Rural District Council together with some features of the new Borough. The design is in a traditional style, and each detail symbolises a particular piece of the Borough’s history.

The motto reads, ‘The Welfare of the People is the most important Law’.
