The Town Rangers have had a busy summer with 219 calls throughout July and August. 23 of these calls were in relation to Anti Social Behaviour (ASB). ASB has been an issue in Eastleigh Town Centre in recent months but once again, the businesses, the rangers and the police all working together to tackle this has seen a drop of 38% in reported cases since 1st August 2023. What a great result!
As well as ASB, the rangers have been to called to assist with shoplifting in the Town Centre. We are pleased to report that 2 shoplifters were arrested and are currently on police bail with conditions. The rangers became aware of a group of shoplifters who were travelling from Winchester to Eastleigh to shoplift, these unwanted shoplifters were deterred by the rangers and left Eastleigh empty handed. The British Transport Police we also made aware of the group to assist in deterring them in the future.
The summer months also mean there are lots of events and activities going on in the Town Centre. The rangers are always on hand to welcome these acts, assist them in set up if they need it as well as being a point of contact throughout the day should they have any issues.
Everyday throughout August (weather permitting), the rangers opened and closed the Eastleigh Urban Beach, this included Sunday which is not a working day for them. Unfortunately during this time there was an act of vandalism whereby some of the Eastleigh BID Deckchairs got broken. Again the rangers were on hand to resolve the issue so the beach could continue to be enjoyed as well as working with the CCTV to identify those responsible.
After such a busy summer helping make Eastleigh a safe, clean and welcoming place to work and visit, our rangers certainly deserve a rest, especially in the heat wave we are experiencing!
